SCIENTISTS HAVE DEVELOPED A NEW TECHNIQUE THAT COMBINES OBSERVATIONS OF POLARIZED LIGHT AND SOLAR WAVES TO MEASURE THE SUN’S CORONAL MAGNETIC FIELD MORE ACCURATELY AND ROUTINELY, IMPROVING OUR UNDERSTANDING OF SOLAR ACTIVITY AND SPACE WEATHER FORECASTING.
SUMMARY: The Sun’s outer atmosphere, known as the corona, is shaped by powerful magnetic fields that drive solar eruptions and influence the variable conditions in the space environment—known as space weather. Yet measuring these magnetic fields directly remains one of the greatest challenges in solar physics—especially with small-class telescopes. A new approach by U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) National Solar Observatory (NSO) scientist Dr. Alin Paraschiv offers an innovative solution by combining observations of polarized light from the corona with measurements of waves that ripple through the Sun’s atmosphere, much like scientists use seismic waves to probe Earth’s interior. Through a newly developed open-source analysis framework, scientists can determine both the strength and direction of the coronal magnetic field with an accuracy comparable to far more demanding traditional techniques. Designed for use with the latest generation of solar observatories, like the 4-meter NSF Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope, built and operated by the NSO, this method opens the door to more routine and accessible measurements of the Sun’s elusive magnetic field. In doing so, this framework helps scientists better understand the forces that power solar activity and improve forecasts of space weather that can affect satellites, astronauts, and technology on Earth.

CCCRdg Notes: Every solar body carries its own electromagnetic force field that dictates the electrical mechanical HVAC regulation within the light body mass. This alignment between the electrical light circuit and the corresponding mechanical resonant expression is a direct inversion coordinate relationship between the two; celestial:terrestrial communication flow. Inside/Out. From the fractal level, these solar magnetic principles repeat at all scales as ONE interconnected electrical light signaling network. Understanding the Sun’s EMME solar cycles with measurement precision will provide the quantifiable means to proactively work with our celestial rhythms to restore, renew, and plan with objective resiliency.
