Human Designed Street Crossings
Crosswalks serve as the way to enable pedestrian traffic flow and should support natural gait, pace, and balance. These are parameters dependent upon the height of the species. Natural urban design should reflect these requirements to maintain uninterrupted flow.
Crosswalks are generally defined as the portion of the roadway designated for pedestrians to use in crossing the street. They exist at the intersection of roadways regardless of whether they are marked or unmarked. Every intersection, and certain midblock locations, are legal national crosswalks, unless otherwise signed.
The human heart is interlinked with the human pace – Keeping pace has meaning.
The new definition of a intersection crosswalk:
A controlled location is an intersection with a traffic signal or all-way stop – For Time
An uncontrolled location is an intersection without a traffic signal or all-way stop – For Distance
- Human pace 1 sec is equal to two steps, defining the time to cross an intersection
- Human step is equal to half pace 0,5 sec, defining the space to cross a intersection
Measurement Basics
The harmonic foot of 0.308641975 m x1.2 = 0.3125 m x5 = 1.5625
1.5625 X 1036.8 = 1,620 m (Harmonic mile with Vitruvian Man)

Walking all paths of life, Zebra crossings are mostly a disturbance as they disrupt peoples’ pace from their natural state.
REsolution; Standard or Parallel Crosswalks align you with the direction your eyes are focused on. With AI and driverless cars, continental crosswalks become obsolete and will be a thing of the past.
